Since 1986

The same family, the same trade, the same town.

Burtner Electric started in Noblesville in 1986 and never left. Over that time the work expanded out to Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville, Indianapolis, Westfield, Anderson, Tipton, Whitestown and Elwood, and the Burtner name went on the shirts of the local Boys and Girls Club, where it has stayed ever since.

Shop record

One family, one town, one trade.

Burtner Electric is family-owned and operated, and it has run out of the same Noblesville shop since 1986. The crews that wire new houses in Chatham Hills are the crews that come back to change a flood bulb you cannot reach.

More about the shop

1986

The year the shop opened, and the year it started sponsoring the local Boys and Girls Club. Local kids have been wearing the Burtner name while they play ever since.

The shop also supports Prevail, Make-A-Wish, Family Promise of Hamilton County, Life Centers and local churches, and it takes on entry-level trainees and teaches them the trade in-house.

In their words

Fantastic experience with Burtner Electric Inc! They handled a diverse list of jobs for us, including changing out light fixtures, wiring new ceiling fans, adding indoor outlets, moving light switches, and installing video cameras. They were punctual and respected our home by cleaning up after every phase of the project. Excellent value and service.

Landon did a great job. He was early and left the place spotless after drywall cutting. We had two canned lights put in in an outlet plus a light switch, and everything was done very professionally.

Jessie Collins, Google

The whole Burtner Electric team is doing a great job with our home electrical update. Nice group of people to work with! Will use them again.

Brian Joyce, Google

Landon and Carter demonstrated great professionalism, handling the job with remarkable efficiency. Highly recommended!

Before you call

The questions we actually get asked.

Permits, panel capacity, inspection reports and generator sizing. If yours is not here, the office will tell you straight.

Call 317-773-7663

Yes. Carmel maintains its own permitting office, separate from the other Hamilton County municipalities, and an EV charger circuit has to be inspected and approved there. It also matters for money: the federal 30C credit requires the work to be done by a licensed installer with the proper permits pulled, so a permit-free install can cost you the credit.

No. In Indiana a Level 2 charger needs a licensed electrical contractor, because it is a new 240-volt dedicated circuit rather than a plug-in appliance. A do-it-yourself or handyman install is not legal here and will not pass inspection.

Often not. Plenty of the 200-amp panels in Carmel and Noblesville homes can carry a Level 2 charger as they stand. It comes down to a load calculation on your specific panel, which we do before quoting, so you find out before you commit rather than after.

A typical residential Level 2 install runs two to six hours once the permit is in hand. Newer garages, like those in the West Clay area or along the 146th Street corridor, are usually a straightforward run. Older sections nearer the Arts and Design District can need more complex routing, and a panel upgrade adds time on top.

Yes, for homeowners and for realtors working a deadline. Send over the inspection report and we will give you a free estimate on the electrical section. Worth knowing: Marion County and some other Indiana municipalities require a licensed electrician to do inspection-report electrical work and bring the home up to code, so this is not a handyman job.

We are an authorized Generac dealer, so we size, install, service and repair them. Sizing is the part that matters most: we will walk you through whether you want whole-home backup or enough to carry the essential circuits, and match the unit to what your house actually draws.

We are based in Noblesville and work across Hamilton County and the surrounding counties: Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, Zionsville, Lawrence, Indianapolis, Anderson, Tipton, Whitestown and Elwood.

Stop using the circuit and call us. A breaker that trips repeatedly, an arc or spark flash, a switch plate that is hot or discolored, or a buzzing or crackling sound are all signs to have looked at rather than live with. The office is open Monday to Friday 7:30 to 4:30, and we run emergency residential service outside those hours.
